World Development Information Day 2024 Theme, Speech, Poster, Photos, Activities, History:

The United Nations General Assembly decided to institute a World Development Information Day coinciding with United Nations Day on October 24. The General Assembly had the object of drawing the attention of world public opinion each year to development problems and the necessity of strengthening international co-operation to solve them.

The day was further recognized as the date on which the International Development Strategy for the Second Nations Development Decade was adopted in 1970.

History:

The UN Conference on Trade and Development proposed measures for information dissemination and public opinion mobilization regarding trade and development problems on May 17, 1972. This came to be known as resolution 3038 (XXVII).

This Resolution was passed by the UN General Assembly in 1972 to institute World Development Information Day on October 24.

The day also coincides with the adoption of the ‘International Development Strategy’ for the Second United Nations Development Decade in 1970.
